Tax Rates

Tax Rates

In TransVirtual there is the ability to create custom tax rates, if required. Typically, the tax rate in Australia is defined as GST (Goods and Services Tax) and is usually a 10% tax applied to most goods or services.
This article will detail, how to create a custom tax rate and apply it, should you require a rate other than the default 10%.
Tax Rate page is used to create/edit a new/existing tax rate.

How to Add Tax Rate

1. To add a tax rate, go to Finance > Configuration and Setup > Tax Rates, the tax rate page will display as shown below.

1. You will notice that, by default, you may already have a tax rate in the list.
2. If you are located in Australia there should be a 10% GST rule already in place.

To add new tax rate rule, first we need to disable the current tax rate. To disable the rule, first click on the rule, the detail of the rule will display on the right side of the screen, now click on the Enable Tax checkbox to 'un-ticked' it and then click the on the Update button as shown below.

Once you done the above step, you will see the color of the rule turns into Orange instead of White which means that the Rule is Disable.

2. To add a tax rate, on tax rate page, click on Create Tax Rate button as shown above, a popup to Create a new tax rate will display as shown below.

3. Now, manually enter the Tax Title (Rule Name) and then click on the Create button to save the tax rate.
Here, in this example, we are going to use "12% Tax for all customers" as the name.
4. You will see the new Tax Rate in the list in orange color, it means that the tax rate is not yet active.

5. Now, click on the newly added tax rate, the detail of the rate will display on the right side of the screen as shown below.

6. If needed you can specify the Tax Rate and the Effective and Expire Date as shown below.

In this example, we specify a 12% tax rate.
7. Now, to enable this tax rate, tick the checkbox by clicking on it as shown above and then click on Update button to save the changes.
8. The color of the tax rate turns into White instead of Orange which means that it is now activate as shown below.

Similarly, you can Edit/Update any existing tax rate.

Data Filter

The Data Filter is the driving force that determines when this tax rate will and won't apply to a consignment.
 1. You can see the data filter section below the tax rate detail section, as shown below.

For this example, we are actually going to leave it blank, the reason to keep it blank is that a blank Data Filter will apply the tax rate to all consignments in your account.
2. If you want to create a tax rate for a specific customer or group of customers, you need to add logic to the Data Filter so that the tax rate would apply in the correct circumstances.
3. To add logic to the Data Filter, on tax details page, go to data filter section and fill the details in Select field, Logic and Value with the help of drop-down button as shown below.

4. Once you completed the step 3 (Refer screen 03), click on Add Rule button to add this logic for this rule, the rule will display on data filter section (Refer screen 04).
5. In this example, in Select Field used Customer Name, Logic as Equal and Select Value as Shubham Warehouse
This tax rate will now only apply to consignments where the customer is "Shubham Warehouse".
It is important to note that if you have more than one active tax rate; if any of these are limited to a specific customer or customers, any other tax rates would need to have the reverse logic added to their Data Filters.
For example:

If both of the above tax rates were active and one applied to one customer using the above logic in the Data Filter, the other Data Filter would need to say Customer Name, Not Equal, Price per 25kgs in Select Field, Logic and Select Value column respectively.
If the Data Filter was left blank and the rule was active, BOTH of the tax rates would apply to consignments where the customer was Price per 25kgs.
6. As mentioned above, for this example, we are leaving the Data Filter blank because we want it to apply to ALL customers, agents, etc.

To Delete Tax Rate

1. If you wish to delete any existing Tax Rate, on tax rate page, simply click on Delete icon irrespective of the Tax Rate, a confirmation popup will display as shown below.
