Zebra ZQ630 - Mobile Printer Setup

This article will detail the setup of a Zebra ZQ630  Mobile Printer; giving users the ability to print labels while out and about. This article will also show how to connect a device to the printer to use this feature with TransVirtual.
This link will give you the user guide on the Zebra ZQ630: https://visionid.ie/images/uploads/zq630-ug-en.pdf . This is NOT the setup to enable mobile printing with TransVirtual. Read below for how to setup with TransVirtual.

Setup

1. To start with, the mobile printer needs to be configured with the following settings (some required)-the settings can be found by pressing the top left(home) button:

  1. Darkness = 10.0 (preferred)
  2. Print Speed = 3.6
  3. Media Type = Gap/Notch
  4. Tear Off = 0
  5. Print Width = 832
  6. Print Mode = Peel Off
  7. Label Top = 0
  8. Left Position = 0
  9. Reprint Mode = Off
  10. Label Length Max = 7
  11. Language = English
2. In the Tools menu there are further settings/calibrations you need to make. Enter the Home menu by pressing the top-left button and click on the Tools icon:
  1. Backlight Timeout = 10 (preferred)
  2. Power Up Action = No Action
  3. Head Close Action = Feed
  4. Load Defaults = Factory
  5. Label Length Calibration = This is a very important setting; one that ensures the labels print correctly. Upon arriving at this screen, there will be an option to press "Start". This will start a Label Length Calibration. This MUST be done. You also need to ensure that labels have been inserted into the printer before this process is attempted.
  6. Diagnostic Mode = Disabled
  7. ZBI Enabled = No
  8. Password Protect = This setting can be customized. You do not need a password for this setup to work, however you may use one if required. The default password for this type of Zebra printer is 1234.
3. Network settings must also be configured. Enter the home menu and select the Network icon settings; hit OK to enter:
  1. Active Print Server = None
  2. Primary Network = Wireless
  3. WLAN Mac Address = This is different per device; Mac Address is a unique identifier that is used to identify a machine on the internet. The Mac address for your device will be located on the back of the device:

You can also find the Mac Address by printing the current device settings:

The Mac Address will already be filled in on the printer. You will need to enter the Mac Address into the settings part of the TransVirtual app; this connects the app and printer:

Click on the '3 dots' in the top-right and then click settings. Then where it has the printer MAC, Tap and Hold to edit/input the printer's Mac address. This MUST be done for this process to work properly.

Note: The remainder of the settings included in the Network part of the setup will 'auto-fill' when all necessary connections have been made.

Connecting a Device to the Printer

In order for a user to be able to print using the mobile printer, a connection between a device and the printer must be created. The link between the two devices will use Bluetooth.

1. On the front of the printer there are two buttons; a power and a feed button. Press and Hold the 'Feed' button for 5 seconds until you see a small Bluetooth symbol appear-this symbol will appear in the top-left of the screen and will flash.

2. Next, on your device, enter the Bluetooth settings. All devices are different and so finding the device settings will be different. Generally speaking the settings menu will appear as a 'Cog' type icon-should be very easy to find. Enter the Bluetooth section of the settings ensuring that Bluetooth is turned on.

3.  From here you should see an option to pair a new device; similar to below:

4. Click on Pair new device, and you should be shown a list of available devices:

Click on the correct device and you should be shown a 'Pair' message; asking you if you want to connect with that device. Click 'Pair'.

5. You should also see a 'Pair' message appear on the printer at the same time that you see one appear on your device. Click Pair on the printer as well to enable the connection:

Accept using the top-left button.

6. You should see a message stating that Pairing has been successful.

Using the Printer to Print labels from the device

1. Once the pairing is complete the only thing left to do is print any labels you need.

2. Open the TransVirtual app; log in.

3. In the Deliveries section, click on the delivery or pickup you wish to print labels for. Proceed with the delivery as per normal until you arrive at the Signature/Signing for page. Here, click on the Delivery Issues Icon:

4. Entering this screen you will see an option to print the labels. Click on this to do so. You can then either complete the job as per normal by tapping the pen icon and signing for; or you can back out of this delivery/pickup until you are back to the home screen.

Note: You can also print labels using the search section of the app. Search for a consignment number and follow the same steps as above to print the labels from the Delivery Issues page.

Extra Information

The only way to print labels via the mobile printer is to have a connected device feed the jobs to the printer. It is NOT currently possible to send jobs directly to the printer without a connected device.
If you need to have the driver print a label for a consignment that they do not currently have; what would need to happen is that you would have to assign the job to them using the web portal (history tab of consignment-under manual assignments). From here they will see the job appear on their device and can then print the labels as per the above steps.
