Consignment Number Prefix
This article explains how to add a prefix to consignment numbers in a Transvirtual account and why this is recommended. Without a prefix, Transvirtual uses a random starting number.
Set a Consignment Number Prefix
Navigation: Configuration > General > Global Setup > Consignment Related Rules
The Consignment Prefix field adds a string of characters to the beginning of each consignment number created manually in the account.
Recommended prefix format: 3–6 characters related to your business name. For example, an account named "Express Cargo Co" might use ECC.
Steps:
- Navigate to Configuration > General > Global Setup > Consignment Related Rules
- Double-click the Consignment Prefix field to open an editable text area
- Enter your chosen prefix
- Click Save
Note: This prefix applies to all consignments created via the consignment creation page in the portal. It does not apply when:
- A user manually enters a number in the consignment number field
- Consignments are created via EDI/API methods where the external party supplies the number
Why Use a Prefix?
A prefix prevents consignment numbers from consisting solely of short numeric values (for example, 645321). Purely numeric consignment numbers increase the risk of scan mismatches, where mobile app users may inadvertently scan freight associated with a different consignment.
Set a Prefix Per Customer
Prefixes can also be set individually on a customer card, for customers who require a different prefix from the rest of your account. See
Customer Consignment Creation Rules for details.
